The Pennsylvania Slit-Window Bank barn. Three quarter view line drawing of a large barn featuring fieldstone end walls with its unique tall narrow slit windows, for ventilation.

THE PENNSYLVANIA
SLIT-WINDOW BARN BARN

The Pennsylvania Slit-Window Bank Barn is a challenging craftsman kit combining board-by-board with my fine scale Hydrocal masonry castings. A large stone and wooden structure common to the Pennsylvania Dutch country. Specifically, this kit is based on the David Stauffer barn of Butler County, PA. The unique slit-windows were used for ventilation and easily blocked up during the winter months.

I have condensed the 80' x 40' prototype down to 57' x 32'. The barn features a cantilevered forebay with interior details of basement cattle pens and horse stalls; first floor threshing floor, granary and hay mows with oat mow above.

The kit features cast Hydrocal stone walls with traditional board-by-board construction using Northeastern Basswood. Complete step-by-step instructions and full-sized templates are included. If you are a craftsman model builder you'll love this one, it's a must!

Complete the scene with the matching German Colonial Farmhouse!

ON-LINE HOW TO CLINICS

  HOW TO CLINICS
Here are a bunch of my on-line how to work with Hydrocal mini-clinics. Each kit includes specific instructions of course- and there are lots of ways to do things, but here are my thoughts, tips and techniques.

  Coloring STONE
With a little practice you can color realistic stone walls. Here's how I do it.
What are we going to do now that Testors/Floquil has dropped their Flo-Stains?

SCRATCH-BUILDING STOCK

  Hand-Carved Stone-
I have three different grades available. Use as retaining walls, cut them up for foundations, or make whole new buildings.

COMPLEMENTARY KITS

  German Colonial Farmhouse
is the perfect match for the Bank Barn. It has the same type stone walls. In fact I definately tried to match them.

  The Virginia Horse Barn
Or how about another barn. This one features lots of board-by-board construction on top of a simple cobblestone foundation.

  The Nantucket Shingle House
Here's a possible companion for the Bank Barn, it sort of looks like a farmhouse.
