THE NEW ENGLAND SALTBOX

American Shelters Series

This classic New England Saltbox is the initial offering in my American Shelters Series. It depicts the tradtional saltbox design in full detail. This fun little kit goes together in about one evening but don't let that fool you. It is packed with fine detail. The walls and roof are clad in my fine scale 5" reveal cedar shingles - cast in white Hydrocal with all the detail of the hand-laid shingle-by- shingle originals. I spent hours and hours gluing down the little rascals one-by- one! But you don't have to! All the hard work is done. Simply color (don't worry, I'll explain that in the instructions) and assemble, and you'll have a great looking building for your layout.

23' x 27' ( 3-1/4" x 3-3/4" ) in HO scale.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION - for this model

ON-LINE HOW TO CLINICS

  HOW TO CLINICS
Here are a bunch of my on-line how to work with Hydrocal mini-clinics. Each kit includes specific instructions of course- and there are lots of ways to do things, but here are my thoughts, tips and techniques.

  Coloring SHAKE ROOFS
Really the same as coloring concrete, it is simple. Check out how I do it.

SCRATCH-BUILDING STOCK

  Standard Common Brick- fine
If you like to scratch-build or just want to practice before you do, check out my stock castings. These are the same building blocks I use to create my kits.

  Hand-Carved Stone-
I have three different grades available. Use as retaining walls, cut them up for foundations, or make whole new buildings.

  Cinder Block Wall
Mix it up a bit and you'll have an even more interesting building.

  Concrete Retaining Wall
Whole 4" x 8" panels of the stuff. Use them for retaining walls, foundations, even make complete buildings like I have.

  Corrugated Metal
The roof stock, my Cedar Shake Roof - fine, CSR-f, is available seperately. This is great stuff to have. Use for buildings, roofs, and what have you.

COMPLEMENTARY KITS

  The Nantucket Shingle House
A slight variation on the Saltbox, the rear addition is built as a shed.

The Safety Hook & Ladder Co.
  Brick Firehouse

How about this little two-story firehouse? It's the prefect introduction to Hydrocal brick structures. If you are afraid to tackle the larger kits why not start here? You will find that Hydrocal modeling is lots of fun and not that difficult to master.

  The Stone Shingle Mill
is a great introduction to modeling stone in Hydrocal. This is one of my personal favorites, and indeed, one of my most popular kits.
