Minden Flour Milling Company. A line drawing of the building.

THE MINDEN FLOUR MILLING COMPANY

The Minden Flour Milling Company is a beautiful brick structure with four tall boiler-plated silos and its corrugated additions. It was at the southern terminus of the Virginia and Truckee Railroad. This historic structure still stands proudly today in Minden, Nevada. In fact, you pass right by it on US 395, you can practically stick your hand out your car window and touch it. The highway goes right down the old right of way.

The HO scale model will be a prominent feature on your layout. The exceptional fine detail of the 42 Hydrocal castings will withstand the closest scrutiny. Included are 28 Grandt Line doors and windows, plenty of Northeastern scale lumber as the interior floors are constructed board-by-board, complete instructions with full-sized templates, drawings and step-by-step text to insure you'll capture this masterpiece in full.

The pilot model was subject of a four part modeling article starting in the October 1988 issue of Mainline Modeler.

Unfortunately it's time to retire the molds on the Minden Flour Mill. It's been a great run. If enough interest builds up we might refresh the molds so send me an e-mail if you think you really want one.

( 6-1/2" x 18" x 8-1/2" tall ) in HO Scale.

ON-LINE HOW TO CLINICS

  HOW TO CLINICS
Here are a bunch of my on-line how to work with Hydrocal mini-clinics. Each kit includes specific instructions of course- and there are lots of ways to do things, but here are my thoughts, tips and techniques.

  Coloring BRICK
My traditional techniques for coloring and mortaring brick.

  Coloring CORRUGATED METAL
Really its very simple. Click above and find out how I do it.

SCRATCH-BUILDING STOCK

  Standard Common Brick- fine
If you like to scratch-build or just practice before you do, check out my stock castings. These are the same building blocks I use to create all of my kits.

  Corrugated Metal
The roof stock, my Cedar Shake Roof - fine, CSR-f, is available seperately. This is great stuff to have. Use for buildings, roofs, and what have you.

COMPLEMENTARY KITS

The Safety Hook & Ladder Co.
  Brick Firehouse

How about this little two-story firehouse? It's the prefect introduction to Hydrocal brick structures. If you are afraid to tackle the larger kits why not start here? You will find that Hydrocal modeling is lots of fun.

  The Stone Shingle Mill
is a great introduction to modeling stone in Hydrocal. This is one of my personal favorites, and indeed, one of my most popular kits.

  The GN Depot
How about a passenger depot to go along with the Minden Mill? They'd make a pretty nice pair.
