We dutifully returned to the tradeshow Thursday morning.

With that done we hop in the car and head towards Silverton.
The plan is to gather some colorful dirt, take a few photos and learn a few things.
I have all the photos I need of Silverton but a few more won't hurt. We have lunch
at the oldest building in town and then head up the hill to Red Mountain, the site of
The National Belle Mine, one I've chosen to do as the next limited run kit for Builders
In Scale.

The Silverton City Hall

The detail we note is the "daps" (notches) in the timberwork.
There are also mortise and tenons, we note with wood pins. I won't include these in
the kit but it's fun to know they were there.

We climb the hill and inspect the "Knob". There are several
holes that have been picked clean. The geologic explination is these were cracks and
fishers that were filled with volcanic steam/heated water that was rich in silver,
lead and other valuable minerals. The miners followed this vanes 1400 feet down and
in all directions.

Back in Silverton we decide it is too late to make it back
for the evening session so we head north again to explore some of the mine sites.
